Begins with 26 alphabet phonograms and moves on to multi-letter phonograms completing all 70 common.
Your student will learn a nearly forgotten skill; writing in cursive.
In this 25-lesson course, students learn cursive formation of both lower case and upper case letters and how to connect cursive letters when writing a word.
Cursive Handwriting is taught by Alice Nine, a master teacher. Students respond well to her engaging instruction — writing, reciting, answering questions. Her delivery pace, soothing voice, and natural encouragement build confidence. Your student will enjoy her student-facing videos, watching her model as they work along with her.
In the first five lessons, the 26 alphabet phonograms are used to present the cursive formation of letters individually. Instruction begins with the writing of a manuscript letter –what they already know. Then Alice Nine models overlaying the cursive formation on that manuscript letter, paying attention to starting point, pathway and ending point, critically comparing the cursive form with the manuscript form.
Beginning in Lesson 6, the digraphs and trigraphs are used to teach students how to make common letter connections. Then in Lesson 16, students are introduced to the formation of cursive capitals and practice writing words seamlessly in cursive. In Lesson 21, students contimue learning the cursive capitals and practice writing sentences in cursive.
Student work may be done in a composition notebook, on plain notebook paper, or on special writing paper with a broken mid-line (see link in Resourses).
Alice Nine created an optional work text for this course while teaching her grandson. Using special track letters, a font she designed to create the pages, this work text supports students who have handwriting issues that result in very poor manuscript letter formation. Available to purchase here.
