Grammar Boot Camp 1 & 2  (44 lessons) is a great hands-on course for your student to learn and understand English grammar. Lessons are designed around anchor charts and the creation of a personal interactive notebook. The course is divided into two parts: Camp 1, all about parts of speech, and Camp 2, all about sentences and sentence elements. The Camps should be done consecutively in the same year. One is incomplete without the other.

Grammar information is presented in concise charts and graphics to illustrate and simplify rules and concepts and to support visual memory. During these front-leading anchor lessons, students create an interactive grammar notebook by using preprinted charts and graphics (Grammar Graphics) and by adding notes during the video lessons.

The first half of the course, referred to as Camp 1, has 20 lessons during which we sork with parts of speech. Students review the content and chart their learning in a composition notebook using Alice Nine’s Grammar Graphics.  

The second half of the course, referred to as Camp 2, has 24 lessons that are all about sentence elements and sentences. During these lessons, students continue to create charts about their learning in their personal interactive grammar notebook.

At the end of each lesson is a retrieval practice formatted as an e-quiz. This review quiz should not be graded. It is not an assessment. Instead, the purpose of the e-quiz is to provide opportunities for students to say and hear the language of grammar (e.g. terms such as abstract nouns, verb tense, subject, predicate, phrase, clause). This happens best if they read the question out loud. Question hints direct them to their grammar notebook to support their answers.

Lessons average 20-30 minutes; there are 8 longer lessons in Camp 1 and 6 longer lessons in Camp 2 that may be scheduled across two days. Plan a minimum of 28-30 instructional days for Camp 1. Plan a minimum of 30 instructional days for Camp 2. They should be done consecutively in the same year. One is incomplete without the other. Work is done in a composition notebook, a spiral notebook, or on plain notebook paper in a 3-ring binder. A composition notebook is used by Alice Nine in the lesson videos.
